These sugar cookies are the best! Whenever I make them someone always asks for the recipe. They even won an award (with my cream cheese frosting) at a cookie exchange!
Soft Sugar Cookies
Ingredients:
4 cups flour
1 tsp. baking powder
½ tsp. baking soda
½ tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. ground nutmeg
Couple dashes cinnamon
1 cup butter, softened
1 ½ cups white sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
½ cup sour cream
Directions:
- Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon; set aside. Cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg, vanilla, and sour cream until well blended. Stire in the sifted ingredients. Wrap dough in plastic wrap and chill for four hours or overnight.
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to ¼ to 1/2 inch thickness (very important to keep them on the thicker side). Cut into desired shapes with cookie cutters. Place cookies 1 ½ inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
- Bake for 6.5 to 8 minutes (it is really important to not let these overcook!). They are done when they look set and are barely golden. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for five minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.
